PSD chief confirms ‘termination’

PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah confirmed yesterday that his service as Public Service Deparment (PSD) director-general has been terminated.

Abu Bakar, 57, said he was notified through an official letter.
"I received a letter stating that my service was terminated starting July 1."

The PSD made a statement on Friday that Abu Bakar had "stepped down" after 35 years with the government.

The statement did not state whether Abu Bakar was taking an early retirement, or that his service had been terminated.

When asked about his future plans, Abu Bakar said he had no immediate plan.

Abu Bakar joined the civil service in 1977 as an administrative and diplomatic officer with the Trade and Industry Ministry. He then served in various ministries, including the Federal Territories and the Prime Minister's Department.

Prior to his appointment as PSD chief in 2010, he was the Defence Ministry's secretary-general.
